Find Tetouan! UNESCO World Heritage White Walled Town

Morocco has now 9 UNESCO World Heritage sites and Tetouan is one of them. Located in the north part of Morocco, near the Mediterranean Sea, this city has both Moroccan and European atmosphere.

Souk in Tetouan
If you walk in the evening in the medina of Tetouan, it's full of people, just like other cities in Tetouan. It's really fun to walk among local people and see around lots of street shops.

Vegetable Market
Foods in Tetouan seems amazing, vegetables are actually shining. Sweet cakes on the streets are also tempting. You will never get bored just by walking around.

Spanish building
At the end of the 15th century, Muslims in the Iberian Peninsula fled here under the Reconquista (Spanish people reconquered the peninsula), then they built this city. Although the medina is typical Moroccan, some of the buildings have Spanish style.

Brick walls
Just by turning around the corner, you'll feel like you're walking in one of the European cites. Then if you turn again, you'll be in a chaos of a Moroccan medina. Tetouan is a very interesting city.

Royal Palace
Tetouan is a northern basement of Morocco and one of the Royal Palaces is here. Local people are so proud of this.

Cafe in medina
Cozy cafe is also something typical in this city. Having a cafe creme like a local in one of those cafes will make you feel comfortable.

Sandwich in a restaurant
Sandwich was just like a Moroccan. A lot of vegetables, meat, and chips! Just 35 dirhams (4 euros) will make you full!

Walk in Tangier Medina, Find a Cozy Cafe!

In recent years, Tangier in Morocco is becoming a modern new city with big buildings but right in the center of the city, its medina is still the same as hundreds years ago and we can walk in the same street where some famous Western writers or artists walk.

Let's walk in the medina of Tangier with us!

Mediterranean Sea from Kasbah
From the top of the medina, you can look over Tangier old port and the Mediterranean Sea.

Outer wall of Medina
Just like other medinas in Morocco, Medina in Tangier is surrounded by military walls. It's well reconstructed and easy to see how it was in the old times. On top of the walls, they still have batteries.

Petit Socco
Petit Socco is the main square in the center of the medina. You can start and end the medina walking here. The medina in Tangier is not so big. Hotels, restaurants. cafes, gift shops, local people's markets are all together in the small area. Just by hanging around a few hours, you'll have a lot of interesting experiences.

Cafe Central
The famous Cafe Central is here on the Petit Socco. This place was a favorite spot of an American writer William Burroughs while he was living in Morocco. Tangier is just right across Spain, easy to get from Europe, and still has an Islamic exotic atmosphere. Writer Paul Bowels, or Musicians such as Rolling Stones loved this city and we might be strolling around the same place with them!

Fish market
Something different about Tangier from other medinas is it has a covered fish market. You'll see a huge varieties of fish and understand Moroccans here are real fish eaters!

Kasbah
From Petit Socco to Kasbah is just a 10 or 15 minutes walk. This was used to be a Sultan's palace in the 17th century. Now the palace is open to public as a museum.

New Port, Tangier Mediterranean
For your information, most of the ferries to and from Spain depart and arrive in this Tangier new port, called "Tangier Mediterranean" or "Tangier MED". It's a nice, clean big port but 1 hour diver away from the Tangier city! If you're planning to visit Tangier city before or after the ferry, be sure to have enough time, maybe better staying one night in Tangier.

Morocco in Autumn, Desert, Marrakech, and Chefchaouen!

We've got a good feedback from our customers again!
Here's what they say:

=============================================

It was our first visit to a country in Africa, and we really enjoyed it.
We had the same driver all through our tour and he was very helpful.

When we wanted to go to a supermarket, he just came with us.
During the driving, he always stopped where we wanted to take photos.
He also explained what the places are, where we are going.
Thanks to him, we enjoyed all the places we visited. Sightseeing, shopping, everything was wonderful.

In Marrakech, we got lost often but it was an exciting experience.
At the shops in souk, we negotiated the prices and we could buy more than we expected.
Also we enjoyed food stalls in Jemaa el Fna.

Desert Dune in Merzouga
In Merzouga, we enjoyed our first camel trekking!
At the camping site, we climbed up high on the dune and the camel boy helped us get to the top. From there, we had a great view of the sunrise.

In Chefchaouen, we walked around with a local guide and he actually took us all the places we needed to see. We had a chance to talk with some locals and now we are Facebook friends!

Thank you for making our tour great and something special.

Meknes, Town of History, Architecture, and Great Food!

Lately, more and more people understand the beauty of Meknes, Historical and architectural heritages Bab Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail are the symbol of the town. Less people, less touristique and less expensive. And foods are amazing since this is the center of the agriculture in Morocco!

Bab Mansour is an old city gate, just in front of the medina in Meknes. Built by Moulay Ismail, the 17th century Sultan. "Mansour" is a name of the architect, who converted from a Christian Muslim. Zellige mosaic here is amazing!

If you get closer to the gate, you'll understand it is a piece of great artworks!

Right in the next to Bab Mansour, there's a beautiful fountain. If you walk in the Meknes city, you can find many beautiful fountains like this.

Now we're getting into the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. So far the only mausoleum open to non Muslims in Morocco.

Here you can find so many interesting examples of zellige mosaic. The mausoleum itself is already like  a museum!

This is another "Madrasa Bou Inania," the other one is in Fez, built by the same sultan, Abu Ian Faris. As beautiful as the one in Fez, and not like in Fez, much less tourists, you can feel like you are the only one in this historical treasure!

Don't forget to visit the covered market, right next to El Hidim Square. Vegetables, fruits, meat, all the best things in Morocco are here in this souk. Meknes is also famous with its wine products!

A shop in the medina, selling sawing threads. Moroccans know how to make things look beautiful!

Fez Medina is a Traditional Wonderland in Morocco!

Comparing to the importance of Marrakech, I think Fez is underestimated by tourists.
Fez is more traditional, conservative and the buildings are more beautiful!
Let's check out the beauty of the medina in Fez together.

Bab Bou Jeloud
To explore the medina of Fez,  always start from this Bab Bou Jeloud. Many of the important streets begin here and if you understand the direction of this gate, you'll never get lost!

Bou Inania Madrasa
The first stop in the medina of Fez will be this Bou Inania Madrasa. An Islamic school built by a 14th sultan. Fez was once the center of Islamic study and sometimes called "Mecca in the West", or "Athens in Africa".

Nejarine Square
Everyone stops at Nejarine Square to admire this beautiful fountain. It suddenly appears after the maze-like narrow streets.

Caravansaray
Caravans used to stop here to rest their camels and themselves. Now this is a museum to show the history of Moroccan's local daily life.

Attarine souk
Attarine souk is one of the oldest souks in Fez. This is not a typical touristic shopping street. You can see local people go and come in this busy street.

Attarine Madrasa
This is another Istamic school in Fez, at the end of the Attarine souk. And you should never miss this place. Look at these amazing tile works and plaster decorations!

Karaouine Mosque
One of the oldest university in the world, and it still works as a university and mosque. An interesting thing is, this university / mosque was established by women, daughters of a wealthy merchant moved from Tunisia.

Incense shop owner
Shops around the Karaouine mosquye sell incenses, herb oils, perfumes, something spiritual for our life.

Tanneries
Tanneries in Fez is huge and the most famous in Morocco. Workers are making leather from animal skins. If you want to get the whole picture, step up one of the buildings and look down from a window.

To see all around the medina in Fes, just a half day is not enough. A whole day or maybe more if you want!

Let's visit Fez with us!

Must-Eat Berber Pizza in Rissani

Rissani is a small town close to the desert in Merzouga.
Most people just pass through here but it's worth stopping by or spending a day to enjoy shopping and food!

Berber pizza, a Morocan carzone is a Rissani's local specialty.
Minced ramb meat and a lot of vegetables, spices inside.

One eighth piece is already so huge!

Rissani is also famous with its souk. Less tourists, a lot of local people and local products.

Tea is everywhere in the souk.

Rissani is a hometown of Moulay Ali Cherif, the founder of the Moroccan current dynasty, Alaouite. His mousoleum is here in Rissani, non Muslims can visit the central court.
