Bab Bou Jeloud

To explore the medina of Fez,  always start from this Bab Bou Jeloud. Many of the important streets begin here and if you understand the direction of this gate, you'll never get lost!

Bou Inania Madrasa

The first stop in the medina of Fez will be this Bou Inania Madrasa. An Islamic school built by a 14th sultan. Fez was once the center of Islamic study and sometimes called "Mecca in the West", or "Athens in Africa".

Nejarine Square

Everyone stops at Nejarine Square to admire this beautiful fountain. It suddenly appears after the maze-like narrow streets.

Caravansaray

Caravans used to stop here to rest their camels and themselves. Now this is a museum to show the history of Moroccan's local daily life.

Attarine souk

Attarine souk is one of the oldest souks in Fez. This is not a typical touristic shopping street. You can see local people go and come in this busy street.

Attarine Madrasa

This is another Istamic school in Fez, at the end of the Attarine souk. And you should never miss this place. Look at these amazing tile works and plaster decorations!

Karaouine Mosque

One of the oldest university in the world, and it still works as a university and mosque. An interesting thing is, this university / mosque was established by women, daughters of a wealthy merchant moved from Tunisia.

Incense shop owner

Shops around the Karaouine mosquye sell incenses, herb oils, perfumes, something spiritual for our life.

Tanneries

Tanneries in Fez is huge and the most famous in Morocco. Workers are making leather from animal skins. If you want to get the whole picture, step up one of the buildings and look down from a window.

To see all around the medina in Fes, just a half day is not enough. A whole day or maybe more if you want!

Dar Anebar in Fez, Dreams Come True Riad!

Here we're showing you one of our favorite riads in Fez, Dar Anebar.
It locates just behind the Hotel Palais Jamai, rather easy to find, and close to the center of the medina.
Let's find it out together!


The first thing you'd say is just "Wow!" The courtyard of Dar Anebar is very traditional and beautiful.
You can feel that now you're right in the middle of medina.


This is the entrance of Hotel Palais Jamai, near Bab Jamai. You can get here by taxi and go through the courtyard of Jamai to get to the small streets in the medina.


The streets to Dar Anebar are very narrow, quite typical in the Fez medina.


Just like other riads, rooms are kind of small. This is also a tradition of old Islamic architecture.


Entrance hall of the annex. Very sophisticated. And Wifi is well provided everywhere!


Dar Anebar is also famous with its meals, a professional cook prepare authentic Moroccan cuisine. This is Pastila, a pie with pigeon meat, local specialty of Fez. Interesting part of this meat pie is, it's very sweet!

Cafe Clock, Most Popular Cafe in Fes

I'll show you one of the most popular cafes in Fes.
Cafe Clock has its name since it's right next to the water clock in the medina (in front of Bou Inanina)
Interesting place to visit, just for taking a look the inside!





Roof terrace is very popular, you can see the minaret of Bou Inania Medersa right in front of you.



Cafe creme is 10DH, Lemon Tart is 35DH, about 3 euros in total. Not bad for your coffee break.



And the most popular one in the menu is Camel Burger! (I haven't tried. Seems like a big one)
